Haiti - FLASH : President Ruto affirms that the Kenyan Mission in Haiti will take place

Despite the fact that a Nairobi court blocked the deployment last week of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS) to Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-41527-haiti-flash-the-kenyan-government-appeals-the-high-court-verdict.html Kenya is moving ahead with plans to lead a UN-approved security mission to Haiti, Kenyan President William Ruto said this week after an Italian-African summit in Rome.

The mission was blocked after the Kenyan court in its decision ruled that such a decision contravenes the Constitution and the law and is therefore unconstitutional, illegal and invalid hhttps://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-41519-haiti-flash-the-high-court-of-nairobi-blocks-the-deployment-of-the-mission-in-haiti.html further giving the solution to this blockage by adding "without a reciprocal agreement with the host government".

Interviewed by Reuters, President Ruto said Haiti had asked for help months ago and that he hoped a document [bilateral agreement] would arrive soon to satisfy the court's demands. "This mission could therefore take place as early as next week, if all procedures are carried out between Kenya and Haiti through the bilateral route suggested by the Court," Ruto said.

When asked if talks were underway with Haiti to obtain the necessary enforcement, Ruto confirmed, reminding that it was a police operation and not a military one.
