Haiti - FLASH : Address to the Nation of Prime Minister a.i. Henry (Video)
Wednesday February 7, 2024, as demonstrations become widespread in Haiti, causing more human victims every day, businesses and commerces ransacked and looted and buildings burned, the Prime Minister sent a message to the Nation.

Excerpts from the message to the Nation :

[...] We express our sympathy to all the victims of the violent movement of recent days.

[...] I believe the time has come, we must all make the decision to pull together, save Haiti and do things differently.

[...] I and the entire Government know and we say what we want and where we want to take the country in the days and months to come. It is about security, elections, democratic functioning as provided for in the Constitution.

I would like all my compatriots to understand this, the main task of a Transitional Government is to create the conditions to organize elections, to give back to the Haitian people the right to choose freely, women and men [...]

A transition cannot lead to another transition.

[...] don’t let yourself be fooled. The adversary of the Haitian people is not the police who work tirelessly to fight against insecurity.

[...] All those who refuse the dynamic that will lead us towards the electoral path, all those who decide to resort to violence, to destroy, to kill people, to take power, do not work in the interest of the Haitian people.

[...] As soon as the problem of insecurity begins to be resolved, we will launch the electoral process, in order to give power to the leaders of the Haitian people.

[...] The government asked our friends to come and give a helping hand to our security forces to fight against gangs and put an end to the phenomenon of insecurity. Kenya agrees to take the lead. I want to reassure everyone, the government will do everything to ensure that this mission happens quickly. But in the meantime, we will make great efforts to strengthen the intervention capacity of all our security forces. We have to see the results.

I want to send a big tip of the hat to the vast majority of the Haitian people for their maturity and for their wisdom, because they do not allow themselves to be distracted. I commend all political leaders who choose not to join the violent movement. From tomorrow we will continue to dialogue with them, with civil society and with the private sector to take together all the decisions that will allow us to emerge from the crisis [...]"
