Haiti - FLASH : Demonstration of gang power, considerable human and material losses (Report)

Since February 29, 2024, the two large coalitions of armed gangs "G-9 Family and Allies" and G-Pèp grouped around a federation called "Viv Ansanm" and whose leader and spokesperson is Jimmy Cherizier alias "Barbecue", demonstrate their power in several municipalities in the West department. The human and material losses which were caused by this demonstration of power are enormous.

The National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH) has published a report on the situation

Extract from the RNDDH Report :

At least twenty-one (21) institutions, commercial enterprises and small and medium-sized businesses were vandalized and/or set on fire

The Special Education Centre for the Integration of All, a school for special children, was vandalized;

The Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine (FAMV) was looted;

The Ministry of Agriculture was vandalized and looted;

The National Old Age Insurance Office (ONA) were vandalized and looted;

Commercial and small and medium-sized establishments between Delmas 3 and Delmas 18 were vandalized

- Stico;

- Informatek;

- Nicky Treated Water;

- Trust Hotel,

- Determination (MonCash, NatCash, Treated Water);

- Kay Bab Complex;

Sylvio Cator Stadium was vandalized;

The La Province Market supermarket was looted and then set on fire;

The offices of the Third Party Vehicle Insurance Office (OAVCT) were looted and set on fire;

The Sun Auto premises in Tabarre were looted;

The Ministry of Culture and Communication was vandalized;

The Croix-des-Bouquets Peace Court was set on fire;

The premises of certain commercial banks in Croix-des-Bouquet such as La Banque Nationale de Crédit, SOGEBANK, UNIBANK, were vandalized;

The Saint François de Sales Hospital was vandalized;

The National Police Academy was vandalizedMSC Plus, a commercial company specializing in the sale of construction materials was vandalized. ;

Toussaint Louverture International Airport and Guy Malary Terminal attacked;

...

At least 9 police stations and sub-stations were looted and/or burned.
