Haiti - FLASH : Preparation of 9th AF exam texts in progress...

For three days (Monday, April 14, Tuesday, April 15, and Monday, April 21, 2025), coordinators, supervisors, developers, data entry operators, and secretaries from the Department of Fundamental Education (DEF), as they do every year, are working in workshops on the best way to prepare texts for the 9th grade State exams and for family education centers.

At the opening of this three-day workshop, Yves Roblin, the Director General of the Ministry, highlighted the difficult conditions under which children are learning these days. He drew the participants' attention to the need to "take this situation into account when developing exam texts [...] however, educators must not neglect real-time learning [...] Texts must therefore be developed in such a way that all children can write normally," while recalling that the Ministry has already launched the National Learning Compensation Program for ninth-grade and fourth-grade students https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-44698-haiti-education-launch-of-the-national-learning-compensation-program.html

Kendy Nicolas, Director of Fundamental Education, emphasized that the 2024-2025 school year promises to be more challenging in terms of learning time for students, particularly in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area and in certain school districts in Artibonite and the Central Plateau. For this reason, he believes it is very important for the Ministry to consider how it can provide students with relevant exam texts based on the curriculum and not neglect the realities of school operations this year.

Finally, Kendy Nicolas stated that he expected the following results at the end of this three-day workshop :

1. Technicians are ready to harmonize their practices and strengthen their capacities so that they can be more effective in their work;

2. A list of 2025 exam content consistent with the essential elements of the Ministry's curriculum;

3. A series of tables integrating the level of specification and all content elements for each subject;

4. Models for exam design.

For expert Louidor Espazien, Coordinator of the Permanent Assessment Center, the technicians involved in this process must make every effort to ensure that these exams reflect the work actually done in classrooms. In this regard, he hopes that staff will ensure that the exam texts presented by developers are clear, with the aim of facilitating the writing process for all children without difficulty.
