Haiti - FLASH : Countries pledge up to 7,500 troops to the GSF in Haiti 20/12/2025 08:02:42
On Friday, December 19, at a press conference in Washington, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, regarding the Gang Supression Force (GSGF) approved by the Security Council (Resolution 2793), which provides for a force of 5,500 troops ( https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45891-haiti-flash-the-security-council-has-voted-for-the-new-gang-repression-force.html ), stated : "[...] We already have pledges of up to 7,500 forces from a variety of countries. We've seen donors step up to fund that effort [...]" far exceeding the initial targets. It should be noted that the United States and Canada held a closed-door donor conference for the Gang Supression Force at the United Nations on December 9. They stated in a press release that 18 participants had pledged to provide personnel, resources, and technical support. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46411-haiti-flash-18-countries-ready-to-deploy-security-forces-to-haiti.html Should be noted that gangs, heavily equipped with smuggled weapons primarily from the United States, have seized control of more than 80% of the capital, Port-au-Prince, and are expanding their territory into the provinces, in a conflict that has forced 1.4 million people to flee their homes and is fueling a severe humanitarian and food crisis.
