Haiti - Politic : The President Martelly denied having promised a ministry to Kelly Bastien
Friday, one of the reasons invoked by a group of deputies, as the reason for delaying the presentation session of the General Policy Statement of the Prime Minister ratified, Laurent Lamothe, was the last-minute reversal, of the Head of State, regarding the nomination of former Senator Kelly Bastien, as Minister of Environment.

These deputies pro-Bastien, denounced the withdrawal of this nomination, which-according to them had been secured the day before [May 10]. The rumor was even more amplified than the former Senator Bastien, convinced to be the next Minister of Environment, had not waited, to make statements to this effect in certain media...

Saturday, the President Michel Martelly denied on a radio of the capital, having promised the Ministry of Environment to Kelly Bastien "At no time, I have taken such a decision... it has never been the case..." firmly stated the Head of State, saying he was a man of words, who respected its commitments...

Referring to the meeting of the previous day, [where he allegedly gave a guarantee about this nomination], he indicated that the meeting with MPs [Thursday night] was only intended to take stock of the orientation of the vote. According to the Head of State, Members had confirmed they would vote in favor of the statement of General Policy. The President Martelly said, not understanding the real reasons for the postponement of the session.

Stressing that Rudolph Joazile could be of great help in the creation of the new national security force and resolve the crisis of men in military fatigues [that occupy former bases and public buildings illegally].

However, it is feared that the creation of a Ministry of Defence [currently included in the Ministry of Interior] is responsible for some tensions with the international community, which according to diplomatic sources, does not see a good eye the creation of such a ministry in Haiti...
