Marie Carmelle Jean Marie, Minister of Economy and Finance explained the distribution of wage increases in the public service, from the budgetary envelope released in the draft budget for 2012-2013 and that meets, according to the Minister, "the wishes of both Houses of Parliament." These increases are expected to come into force from 1 October 2012, once the budget is approved by Parliament.

"[...] It is not only teachers and police officers who have wages that are considered poor, so we agreed [with the Parliament], so that the budgetary envelope that we have incurred, is distributed throughout the public service, for the civil servants included in the budget or to the treasure, or the persons under contract who are not civil servants.

The conclusion to which we are arrived, who met the wishes of the two chambers, will allow with envelope we have released, that civil servants, earning between 5.000 to 10.000 gourdes have an 16% increase in this category, in this category, we find almost all the teachers for the 1st and 2nd primary level.

We have employees who earn between 10.001 and 21.500 gourdes they will have a 12% increase in this category, you will find a lot of police officers and all public health officials, nurses, etc...

For the category of 21.500 to 42.000 gourdes where we have the salaries of senior officers of the police, doctors and other teachers who are rather secondary and university, and the category of 42.001 to 60.000 gourdes where you find assistants Manager, Heads of Service, these two categories will have an increase of up to 3%.

These wage increases do not apply to Directors, General Managers, Secretaries of State and Ministers. [...] Everyone agrees on this budget and we will have our budget on October 1, [which is still not approved by Parliament, to 4 days of the deadline...] and we can run it without falling into an impasse, that would oblige us to extend the 2011-2012 budget [...]"
