Haiti - Economy : Resolution on poultry products, Michel Chancy, gives details...
Following the resolution agreement relating to the export ban in Haiti of Dominican poultry products, sent Monday, July 12 to President Danilo Medina, Michel Chancy, Secretary of State for Animal Production, estimated that Haiti and the Dominican Republic were on track to resume trade in poultry products.

However, the Secretary of State, wished to clarify that this resolution, that must be signed by the two countries, applies only eggs for consumption, fertilized eggs for breeding and poultry and it was not a trade agreement. Stressing that the establishment of trade agreements is very complex and involves a long process, which involves among other things, the resolution of litigation and that it may take several years.

The ban on poultry products that do not meet the health requirements of the World Trade Organization (WTO) will be maintained "trade with the Dominican Republic will no longer be done like before [...]" insisted Michel Chancy. After the signing of this resolution, the Dominican companies wishing to export to Haiti, will have to hold an international health certificate. "If we find companies that meet the standards of the WTO, they will be able to export their products for the Haitian market."
