Haiti - Elections : The electoral machine is running, the opposition stays behind
Electoral machine is started, while the opposition stays behind, continuing to challenge the pre-calendar electoral announced on October 2, by Emmanuel Ménard, President of the Transitional College of the Permanent Electoral Council (CTCEP), pre-calendar, voted by the majority of the representatives of the Electoral Council [6 votes in favor, 2 against].

While the Organization of People in Struggle (OPL), the Fusion of Social Democrats and INITE have suggested publicly that they will not participate to the elections pre-scheduled on 26 January 2014, the "Patriotic Movement of the Democratic Opposition" (MOPOD), platform which brings together twenty opposition parties including, among others : RDNP, PLH, PROP, Ayisyen pou Ayiti, KID, Ansanm Nou Fo, INITE, Fusion and OPL reaffirms its rejection of the pre-calendar electoral. Turneb Delpé, the spokesman of MOPOD states that "participate is condoning the illegality" without the vote of the electoral law...

The opposition criticizes also the agreement signed in November 2012 with the multinational Smartmatic for the modernization of the civil status register and identity [biometric] a first step towards electronic voting. While the opposition was in favor of the introduction of electronic voting, it now accuses Smartmatic of being a "firm specializing in stealing elections..."

If the opposition prefers to challenge, the pro-government political formations are actively preparing for the next elections. Saturday, the National Citizen Movement (MNC) has carried out an initial rally in Cap Haitien, while Sunday during a rally in Thiote, Joseph Lambert, Special Adviser to the President Martelly, accompanied by Senator Wencesslass Lambert, Youri Latortue, several deputies and CASECS, announced that Combite Southeast, was transformed into National political party.

In addition, the President Martelly in the presence of four mediators of "Religions for Peace" met Simon Dieuseul Desras, the President of the Senate Jean Tholbert Alexis, President of the Chamber of Deputies, on the question of the organization the next elections, in all likelihood, will be held under the auspices of the Electoral Act 2008, which currently remains the only effective (although nothing has filtered of what was said at this meeting). According to our information, a new meeting should take place Wednesday or Thursday.
