Haiti - Social : National Carnival 2013, D-12
Tuesday, Josette Darguste, the new Minister of Culture at the head of a delegation composed of Bernice Fidelia, Minister of Haitians Living Abroad, Stefan Malebranche, Director General of the Ministry of Culture and and members of the National Committee of Carnival 2013, began a two-day tour to Cap Haitien to inquire about the progress of development and repair of the road work linking Port-au-Prince / Cap-Haitien in order to facilitate the flow and safety of revelers.

The delegation visited the site of the National Port Authority (APN) and the path of the route of the carnival and met with members of the Regional Committee of the North.

This was an opportunity for the Minister with Bernice Fidelia, to invite the Haitian Diaspora to enjoy the carnival 2013 and to visit the historic sites and monuments of the North, including the Palace Sans Souci and the Citadelle Laferrière. The two Ministers have proceeded to the choice of spaces to build booths to accommodate the carnival of 2013, the representatives of the Diaspora, including elected officials and Haitian associations operating in foreign countries.



Gilbert Bailly, Chairman of the National Carnival announced that the Haitian government had just release 100 of the 197 million gourdes planned for the realization of the National Carnival [10,11 and 12 February 2013]. He also indicated that 112 of 120 booths have already been sold at a cost of U.S. $ 7.500 each. Each stand measures 10 m by 4 m, half covered, including lighting and toilets.

In addition, a stand will be on the path of Carnival in Cap-Haitien available to journalists, local and international. Requests for access to the press stand will begin on January 31 at the local Ministry of Communication, located at 23 Rue Lamartiniere, Bois Verna and ends February 6, 2013.

Regarding the rumors, suggesting that privileges were granted to Port-au-Prince, that would be the real beneficiary of the construction contracts, Gilbert Bailly has categorically denied "These allegations are false !" explaining that to ensure economic benefits for the region, the Committee has compiled a list of materials and needs in order to purchase them on site, adding that labor "shall be 90% of Cap-Haïtien."
