Haiti - Security : More than 20,000 Haitians repatriated to Haiti in 20 days...

Since the establishment of the "Operation Shield" on January 2, throughout the Dominican border, operation that consists in the operational strengthening of controls (day and night) on the border line, both land, air and sea, more than 20,000 Haitians trying to enter illegally in the Dominican Republic, were arrested and repatriated to Haiti for the month of January alone, revealed Tuesday, January 20, Lieutenant-General William Muñoz Máximo Delgado, Dominican Minister of Defense.

Stressing that this is a clear result "that the Dominican Armed Forces are working in an efficient manner to prevent the migration of these citizens and preserve the integrity of our territory," he added that security at the at the Embassy and in the Dominican Consulates accredited to Haiti, had been strengthened among other measures.

Given the worrying informations from Haiti, which report almost daily events, risks of armed insurrection in the north of Haiti and the overthrow of the Haitian government by popular opposition forces, the Minister assured that the border between the two countries was militarily monitored and the Dominican army was ready to face any eventuality in the Dominican territory, in case of serious crisis in Haiti.
