Haiti - Social : The exodus of Haitians to the neighboring Republic remains strong in Dajabón

In Dajabón, agents of CESFRONT (Cuerpo Especializado de Seguridad Fronteriza Terrestre) and of the Dominican Army arrested between Saturday and Monday, March 2, 894 Haitians who had illegally crossed the border. Recall that last Friday 255 other Haitians were also arrested for the same reasons.

The Cesfront and army declared that the Haitian (men, women, teens and children) have been arrested in areas near the Dominican-Haitian border, others while walking in the mountains or directly on the boundary line that they just crossed. Many had with them, bags loaded with clothing, food and water.

Most of the arrests took place in the sectors Puerta de Hierro, La Bomba, Los Arroyos, La Fe, Aviación, Corral Grande, Palo Blanco and Candelón, among other rural and urban areas of the city. The operations were overseen by the Head of Cesfront, Carlos Aguirre, attended by the Mayor of Dajabón, Santiago Gómez and the head of migration in the North, Caonabo Delgadillo.

Many Haitian arrested told the Dominican agents, they had family in the Dominican Republic and they came into the country in search of their parents, to try to regularize their situation by benefiting from the National Regularization Plan of Foreigner (PNRE) offered by the Dominican government...

Recall once again to our countrymen, that to benefit from PNRE, it is necessary inter alia, that the applicant proves by documents he resided in the Dominican Republic since 2011. Evidence already difficult to obtain for Haitians who meet this criteria (which is not the only requirement), but not possible for those who seek adventure every day, rocked with false hopes maintained by Haitian smugglers who get rich on the ignorance of our compatriots.

After being arrested, Haitian migrants were recorded and handed to the immigration service which has repatriated thel to Haiti.
