Haiti - Elections : Manigat Manigat open to pacts but...

Mirlande Manigat, presidential candidate, said in an interview Monday that agreements between his party " Rassemblement des Démocrates Nationaux Progressistes (RDNP)" and other parties will be essential to resolve the crisis.

She said she was open to pacts with the supporters of candidates, Jude Célestin and Michel Martelly, but not necessarily with the mens themselves. Recalling that the election had cost $29 million of which $14 million had been provided by the United States, and that the ambassadors of the countries that financed the elections, did not intend to pay for new elections.

She described the candidate Martelly of "intelligent man" but added that the music of Sweet Micky [stage name of the candidate Martelly] was not her type of music... Nevertheless, she recognizes the popularity of Martelly near the youth, stating that, as a political scientist, and regardless owing to the fact that she is candidate to the presidential election, Martelly was for her "a case study"...

Regarding Jude Célestin, the government candidate, she said that we should not make judgments based on what people said, adding "I don't know him. That's it."

About her change of positions, his volte face on the recount, and its separation from the Group of 12 (Karibe Convention Center), she recognized on the latter point, that the head of the mission of maintaining peace (Minustah), Edmond Mulet, had called her twice to encourage her to stay in the race, but even that after a meeting with him, this had not influenced her decision "I'm not someone who easily changes her mind. I have strong principles, but a political scientist, knows that sometimes... a new situation may cause you to change your mind"...
