Haiti - Fishing : Development and equipment for Artibonite 27/02/2011 12:31:39 This project was funded to accompany the National Rally for the Evolution of the Fisheries in Haiti (RANEPH), a nongovernmental organization whose the purpose is to foster the development of the Fisheries in Haiti in its multiple components by creating strong fishermen communities in each area where they are isolated. The nature of the project can be summarized in four basic points:
As part of this project many equipment were supplied to the coastal community, two fully equipped fishing boats, fishing nets and traps, two Fish Aggregating Devices (FAD), scuba diving equipments (tanks, regulators ...), one compressor, life jackets. And the conservation of fishery products in particular, solar freezers, solar panels, batteries and equipment required to power them in solar energy, the area is without electricity. The many materials and equipment financed under this project serve two fundamental objectives for the coastal area of the department of Artibonite, the modernization of fishing techniques and the improvement of the performance in the region in terms of seafood production The Japanese Government is aware that fishing infrastructure better suited to the reality of the Artibonite fishermen are essential to the revalorization of this sector. Most appropriate techniques and fishing equipment and most suitable storage conditions are, therefore, essential to boost the activities in this sector. For much of the coastal community of the Artibonite, fishing is the only source of income. From the realization of this project, the community of the coastal areas and all regions that depend of them can now count on an access to a wider range of choices of marine products and therefore, thousands of families will be better able to meet their basic needs. In the same perspective, the fishermen will benefit from a more profitable commercialization of the seafood due to the obvious reduction of waste, that the conservation equipment will provide them.
