Haiti - Education : Important videoconference on the response plan of Ministry
Thursday, Pierre Josué Agénor Cadet the Minister of National Education held an important videoconference on the response plan to the Covid-19 of the Ministry, in particular on the actions in progress for the continuation of learning activities, the exams State and revival of school activities.

Organized on the initiative of the Minister, this videoconference brought together over a hundred partners and actors from the education sector, in particular representatives of technical and financial partners, NGOs working in education, socio-professional associations, teacherstrade unions, technical and departmental directors of MENFP, general inspectors of education, former ministers and director general, education specialists, general director of the ministry and ONAPE, the Secretary of State for Training.

Délima Pierre, Director General of the National Office for Partnership in Education (ONAPE), underlined the importance of the partnership and the role played by ONAPE mentioning in particular the contribution of its institution to two files to be introduced at the level of the Partnership Global for Education (PME). A first file of $ 3.3 million and another $ 10 million in support of the education sector for which a request was submitted by Minister Cadet. Délima Pierre reminded that this amount is part of a contribution of 250 million dollars from the SME to fight against the Covid-19 to several developing countries including Haiti and that it is not gencore certain that Haiti will receive this sum, while recognizing, however, that Haiti was well positioned.

Regarding the section relating to the continuation of learning activities, Miloody Vincent, Director of communication of the ministry, recalled the two aspects of this action, namely the establishment of the digital platform for educational and learning resources called "PRATIC" and the audio-visual courses which will be broadcast on radio and television stations in Port-au-Prince and in the regions https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30433-haiti-education-distance-education-for-all-clarification.html

Invited to present the Digital Platform, Ralphson Pierre, Director of the Unit of Information and Communication Technologies in Education (UTICE) gave an update on the work done to date on the assembly of this educational tool and the utilities already in use in place, from preschool to professional through basic and secondary. The Platform is under construction and gradually strengthening, said the director of UTICE. The lessons given by the teachers for the different levels will be posted as they go, he added, noting that the tool will be launched on Friday April 24 [launch initially planned between April 13 and 17 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30514-haiti-education-launch-this-week-of-the-online-teaching-website-pratic.html ] emphasizing that all the contents are validated by the technical directions of teaching before posting.

Regarding the State exams, Meniol Jeune, Director General of the Ministry indicated that it will be a special year, given all the difficulties encountered, specifying that the exams that should take place, upon resumption of the school year, after advice from scientists, will focus on minimum skills programs

On this subject, the Minister Cadet underlines that the ministry at the end of the study period will indicate to the candidates the key chapters on which the official tests will relate, like other countries, in order to facilitate the work of revision of the student who will be better oriented, according to him, a few days from the official exams.

For the moment, Miloody Vincent insisted that the Ministry was not able to specify when the resumption of school activities will take place. Everything will depend on the evolution of the pandemic.

Several participants who were able to speak including the former ministers Nesmy Manigat and Charles Tardieu, the Director of the private education consortium, Caroline Hudicourt, Professor Roody Edmé, a representative of UNICEF, Brice Saintil, the Professor Roller St Pierre, Guichard Doré, Advisor wanted other complementary actions and follow-up meetings, on major education projects.

At the end of this videoconference of almost 2 hours, Minister Cadet said that he welcomed the suggestions and reiterated the willingness of the Ministry to work, in partnership with all stakeholders, to rebuild the education sector and reach objectives set for the success of the ongoing reform projects and the Department's Covid-19 Response Plan.
