Haiti - Education : Towards new methods for preparing 9th A.F. exam texts

On Monday, the Department of Fundamental Education (DEF) started a two-day workshop during which participants are called upon to reflect on new methods of preparing 9th Fundamental Year (A.F.) exam texts.

Reviewing the elements of evaluation, namely: development, handover, correction, publication and analysis of results, among others, these are the specific objectives pursued within the framework of this workshop which brings together developers and supervisors.

This approach is in line with the spirit and the letter of the 12 twelve measures of Minister Manigat https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-11781-haiti-education-exam-results-disappointing-the-minister-manigat-announced-a-package-of-measures.html , more specifically article 3.1. which stipulates "Will be carried out regular audits of evaluation systems put in place by the institutions of fundamental level subject to sanctions for them not meeting the specifications."

Kendy Nicolas, the Director of Basic Education, referring to what is currently happening in the world, believes that the issues of measurement and evaluation in the teaching / learning exercise are regularly examined, believe that in Haiti "We we have to get on with it..." . He believes it is important to question the entire evaluation system, in order to apply the new prescriptions that are essential at the present time.

During the two days, participants work on techniques to make exam texts more fair, understandable, confidential, complete and credible.

During the first day, the pedagogical and psychometric characteristics of a good test were discussed, the usefulness of a criterion-referenced evaluation (towards a concerted, instrumented and consciousness-based evaluation), the planning of written exams, the principles of writing, the methods of administration and the correction of the examinations.

This Tuesday will be rather devoted to practical work concerning the elaboration of the texts which must be adapted to the new realities.

This work also concerns examinations for Family Education Centers (CEF).
