Haiti - FLASH : Massive voluntary departure of Haitians from the Dominican Republic

This Sunday, September 17, 2023, more and more Haitians decided to return voluntarily and massively to their country, following the conflict caused by the construction of an irrigation canal in Haiti by a private group, with water intake on the Massacre River, which caused the total closure of the Dominican land, sea and air borders as well as an impressive militarization of the border.
At the "Expreso Liniero" station, located on the Duarte highway, in Cruce de Guayacanes, Valverde province, many Haitians were seen with suitcases, ready to take buses to Dajabón and then cross to go to Ounaminthe in Haiti.
When questioned, they indicated that they felt under pressure because of the measures of the Dominican Government and feared reprisals against the Haitians by the awakening of Dominican nationalism and violent elements from the ultra-nationalist and racist Dominican circles... Several of our comatriotes have already been threatened of death...
Others, impressed by the Dominican military deployments and drinking in rumors, say that war is coming and with fear in their stomachs they prefer to return to their country with their family...
The same situation occurs at the Dajabón border crossing. Saturday, September 16, hundreds of Haitians with backpacks and suitcases at the border were waiting to enter Haiti. Steps were taken by the Dominican authorities to facilitate these 'voluntary returns' and it was decided that the door would be open at noon and 4 p.m. For those returning to Haiti...
