On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced in a statement that it had published a notice in the Federal Register terminating Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians on February 3rd, 2026. DHS estimates that approximately 352,959 Haitian nationals currently benefit from TPS and will be required to leave the United States on February 3rd if they have no other legal grounds to remain in the country.

"The Department of Homeland Security today posted a Federal Register notice ( https://public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2025-21379.pdf ) on the termination of Temporary Protected Status for Haiti. After consulting with interagency partners, Secretary Noem concluded that Haiti no longer meets the statutory requirements for TPS. This decision was based on a review conducted by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, input from relevant U.S. government agencies, and an analysis indicating that allowing Haitian nationals to remain temporarily in the United States is inconsistent with U.S. national interests.
