Haiti - Reconstruction : ECOSOC for 4 days in Haiti
A delegation of 14 members, of the Special Advisory Group on Haiti, of Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), led by Gilles Rivard Deputy Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations, is arrived in Haiti on May 21, 2012 for a working visit of four days.

The visit is mainly focused on the problem of long-term development to which Haiti is facing, including the public sector reform, capacity building of the state and the gradual transformation of humanitarian clusters in structures managed by the Haitian state.

On the agenda of ECOSOC, also includes the permanent representatives of Haiti, Benin, Brazil, Bahamas, Chile, Spain, United States, Peru and France, among others, included meetings with Haitian authorities, including President of the Republic, Michel Martelly, Prime Minister, Laurent Salvador Lamothe, the Minister of the Interior, Thierry Mayard Paul, the Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, Josepha Raymond Gautier, members of Parliament, including the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Levaillant Louis-Jeune, and Vice-President of the Senate Andris Riché, the President of the Court of Cassation, Anel Alexis Joseph, and the Director of Civil Protection, Mrs. Alta Jean Baptiste.

On site, the Special Advisory Group of ECOSOC will also meet Mariano Fernández Amunátegu the Special Representative of Secretary-General of the United Nations in Haiti, and resident representatives of UN system. Other highlights, the visit to Cap-Haitien, of the School of the Fosset, a joint project of UNICEF and WFP, the civil prison of the city and the canal Zidor, project carried out by the United Nations Development Programme development Programme (UNDP).
