Haiti - Politic : Council of Government, details of announcements in the Infrastructure Sector (II)
The Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, who led the 5th Council of Government held this Wednesday, August 8, at administrative complex of Les Cayes, said he was satisfied with the smooth running of this meeting and of the renewed commitment of the various members of his administration. We selected for you the important details of this Council and more specifically in this second article, the governmental actions in the infrastructure sector.

INFRASTRUCTURE SECTOR :
The engineer Jacques Rousseau, Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communications (TPTC) focused on a project to create 200,000 jobs, including over 1,500 are already available in the South. The Minister promised to continue the asphalting of streets of the city of Les Cayes and placing of hydraulic concrete of 20 cm at the level of 4 Chemins, to stop flooding in the City. The TPTC expects to begin asphalting from this month, over 41 km of roads in the South whose 13km in Camp Perrin, 6km in Arniquet while completing the road Port-à-Piment / Les Irois and the works of streets Simon Bolivar, Antoine Simonet Anderson, lready begun, not to mention the installation of a reservoir of 1,500 cubic meters to supply the city with drinking water. The Minister took the opportunity to take stock of the 70 km of road Cayes-Jérémie, who will continue despite the departure of the firm OAS which has stopped its work after only 35 kms. This IDB project will not be interrupted, said the Minister Jacques Rousseau.

Jean Jumeau, Minister of Energy has promised to electrify, in solar energy, most municipalities in the South, while signaling its intention to rehabilitate the electricity grid in the South, deficient since the cessation of services of the hydroelectric plant of Saut Mathurine [broken since May 2012]. Haitian Tractor offers 70% of the energy for example in Les Cayes. 142 km of network is being rehabilitated on 162 serving 15.800 customers. The Ministry plans to invest nearly 19 million U.S. dollars to cover the electrification of 18 towns whose 8 are already concerned.

Ms. Stéphanie Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism, presented a plan of infrastructure and of renovation of the tourist sector, with the technical assistance of an Interministerial Commission. The Minister explained a redevelopment program of several tourist attractions whose those of Saut Mathurine, of the Cave Marie- Jeanne, of the beach Morisseau at Anglais, of Cascade Tuyac, of Gelée and of the Ile à Vache in the South. She advocated for the creation of a landfill site in Port-Salut and of a continuing education center in hospitality and tourism, while criticizing the uncontrolled construction in the tourist region of Aquin. The tourism sector has also decided to take into consideration the development plan of the Ile à Vaches to attract new investors.

Roosevelt Jean René, the Minister of Youth and Sports, has mentioned the upcoming infrastructure and redevelopment of the Stadium of Gabions, to the tune of $3.7 million, of the erection of a multisport center in Les Cayes, of new sports facilities to St Jean du Sud, in Camp Perrin, Cavaillon and Aquin.

The Prime Minister strongly recommended to the Minister of Sport to well supervise the athletes and not wait until the last minute to find funding for the participation of Haiti in international championships. He announced that from now, it is the country that will take care of its athletes without asking, for example to FIFA to pay tickets. "Of course we must invest in building new stadiums, but it is important to mentor our athletes," he added, without ruling out the possibility of using the National Lottery for this purpose.
