Haiti - Politic : Laurent Lamothe signed agreements in Rio de Janeiro 25/05/2013 12:33:00 Friday, Laurent Lamothe, who began his fifth day of his official visit, accompanied by Eduardo Paes, Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, visited the ultra modern operation center of the city where before an impressive number of displays, operators monitor and control the traffic and all utilities. A concentrate of technology where the computer is used to manage the city in a few clicks. Following this visit, the Prime Minister Lamothe stated that a technical cooperation between Port-au-Prince and Rio was considered. "[...] The mayor has offered his technical assistance. Experts will come soon in Haiti to see how we can implement such a center in the country." The Laurent Lamothe went to Guanabara Palace, meet Sérgio Cabral Filho, Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro. This successful meeting concluded with the signing of a technical cooperation agreement between the Rio police and the National Police of Haiti. The Prime Minister visited the "Complexo do Alemão" a set of 13 favelas (slums) located in the north of Rio de Janeiro. Compared to Cité Soleil or Jalousie, the favelas of Rio are so large that the police use the cable to combat gangs who still control some favelas. Today peace has returned into many favelas through the implementation of police force of proximity. The Brazilian experience could be very useful for the Haitian police. Laurent Lamothe visited some social assistance projects including "Brazil without misery," a program launched by President Dilma Rousseff in 2011, which aims to help people living in extreme poverty in the favelas and whose Haiti is inspired by launching its program "Ede pèp". The program "Brazil Without Misery" revolves around the "Family Grant" program, which allows the direct transfer of money to the poor, a model that the Government of Haiti replied with his program "Ti manman cheri". The Prime Minister ended his day with an important meeting on the development of hydroelectric project Artibonite 4C. The Prime Minister is convinced that his official visit, which ends Saturday, will have positive effects for Haiti and that relations between the two nations will emerge strengthened.
