Haiti - Social : Management of the teenagers demography 02/11/2013 12:30:33 Dr. Ramiz Alakbarov, Representative of UNFPA, called for the strengthening of information practices among young people, especially teenagers, on the notions of reproduction and prevention for better population management, noting that each year worldwide 20% of births are registered in girls under 18 years. A situation even more worrying that while many countries are experiencing population growth due to migration rates, the growth of the population in Haiti is caused by the fertility rate. Already in November 2012, Evens Joseph, Director of the Haitian Institute of Statistics and Informatics (IHSI) indicated that the Haitian population estimated 10 million people will reach 16.1 million in 2050 (8,023,000 men and 8,126,000 women) nearly 66% will live in urban areas against 50% today. A situation that particularly affects teenagers who are not well educated in particular on contraceptive methods. For Dr. Alakbarov, early pregnancy destroys the life of a teenager, stressing the importance of keeping girls in school, educate them while stressing the integration of boys in the prevention approach, which are equally responsible. Mr. Reynold Grandpierre its part, the representative of the Ministry of Public Health and Population has emphasized the role that the Haitian State should play in the management of demographics especially among young people under 18 years. Senator Francisco Delacruz, Chairman of the Parliamentary Network on Population and Development, agrees with the idea that training could help young people especially those from disadvantaged neighborhoods, noting that work in the field have shown that many of these young people no longer tolerate this situation and are determined to fight it. Recall that in Haiti since September 2012 was launched an information campaign and awareness "Plis kontwòl". The purpose of this campaign is to encourage the adoption and promotion of modern family planning methods by youth and help prevent unwanted pregnancies through responsible behavior. If necessary, all those who want assistance in family planning [teens or adults] on the whole national territory, by calling FREE from their mobile phone the number 100, can receive: assistance, advice, support, psychological support and references in strict confidence and without prejudice. 7 professional advisors of health or social sciences, provide service 7/24. This project lasting 2 years, is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), to the tune of 5 million U.S. dollars.
