Haiti - Reconstruction : The compensation process for expropriated of downtown continues

As part of the construction of the administrative city, which will extend over 38 hectares, the Standing Committee of the Amiable Acquisition (CPA) [located at Avenue Christophe # 53], after a month of operation, provided an update Wednesday on the status of the process of compensation for expropriated of downtown.

Eric Jasmin, the Executive Secretary of the CPA, indicated indicated that the demolition process continues and that the next step will be the street of Centre until Bicentennial, while stating that schools, churches and prisons in the area, are not concerned for the moment. He recalled that in the 6 blocks that includes the construction zone, 439 properties in 5 blocks had already been demolished and that of the 213 cases filed with the CPA, 55 owners had already been compensated.

According to Ronald Décembre, Secretary of State for Finance, 158 records of 213 submitted, must be completed at the Notary Céant, due to various problems of names, survey certificate or incomplete title and are awaiting regularization, lamenting further that 226 of the 439 owners had still not submitted their case.

Ronald Décembre asked the population and expropriated of downtown in particular, to remain calm while waiting for their compensation, and wanted reassured them by reminding them that nearly 1 billion Gourdes was available to compensate the owners and all expropriated will be compensated.
