Haiti - Agriculture : True success of ProHuerta Program in Haiti
A survey conducted by the National Food Security Council (CNSA) of Haiti, indicates that 93% of Haitian families participating in the program ProHuerta, improved their food situation. Implemented by the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina, the program used for 25 years in Argentina spent a decade in Haiti, where there has over 21,000 orchards, 1,500 promoters and benefits more than 140,000 "family gardeners."

The report also states that "86% of households have a greater variety and quantity of food, which leads to lower market purchases and enhances their autonomy. As a result, household spending fell from 66% of monthly income to 33%.

For Liliana Paredes de Periotti, Assistant Secretary of the Food Policy for the Ministry of Social Development of Argentina, the success of the program in Haiti is the result of the ability to transmit tools that are appropriate in the territory and reassessed in their space.

"The ProHuerta program is a clear example that provides opportunities for security and food sovereignty. Being a private space for each inhabitant, this also allows to reassess its history and cultural context in order to root it in more families," stressed the Undersecretary de Periotti. "As a developer of ProHuerta in Santa Cruz since 1994, I feel a great satisfaction," Periotti said, which throughout her career, transited in the way of learning and decision making, what places her among the "architects of this transformation."

Anglesio Francisco, President of INTA, which abounds in the sense of the Assistant Secretary "Family farming is a priority sector in the institutional policy of INTA. It ensures food sovereignty and produces 65% of the food consumed in Argentina [...] These are the true public policies that deepen an inclusive model, which gives access to better conditions of life and production," affirmed Anglesio while ProHuerta program in Haiti benefits from an agreement signed in January 2014 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10325-haiti-agriculture-the-argentinean-program-pro-huerta-extended-until-2016.html extending the national cooperation program in Haiti until 2016.
