Haiti - Coronavirus : Important meeting at the National Palace
Monday, March 2 at the National Palace, as part of the measures taken by the health authorities to deal with a possible introduction and spread of Covid-19 on the national territory, President Jovenel Moïse met with the outgoing Prime Minister , Jean Michel Lapin, members of his government, in particular Dr. Marie Greta Roy Clément, the Minister of Public Health, the Director General of Customs and the Director of Immigration, around the measures underway against the Coronavirus (Covid-19) in order to share information on the development of the situation and the measures taken by the State to deal with a possible epidemic.

Moïse stressed the urgency and the need for his administration to act firmly to limit the introduction and spread of the virus and protect the lives of people throughout the national territory. He therefore asked members of the government to be open to all professional sectors and organized groups, public and private, in order to provide effective responses to the Covid-19.

Stressing the need to establish a task force with the private sector, the Association of Industries of Haiti, the Economic Forum, banks, media associations, journalists, deans of health faculties, school associations and health professionals, etc... the President of the Republic believes that the Coronavirus is not only the business of the government, but also of all Haitians.

She indicated that measures had also been taken to protect public spaces with a high population density (markets, prisons, schools, universities, etc...) Explaining "institutions are prepared as well as trainers oriented through the departmental directorates. About 200 beds are available in different public and private hospitals. In addition, a monitoring unit has been created. A response and preparation plan is already in place and places equipped for the care of patients."

In addition, she informed that a meeting had been held between the Ministry and socio-professional associations in the health field with a view to adapting the PAHO/WHO care protocol, which started from March 3, 2020 with trained staff. Minister Clément also announced the preparation of a training course for journalists from the West Department around the coronavirus.
