Haiti - J.O. Beijing 2022 : D-24, The skier Richardson Viano will defend the colors of Haiti
A first in history, Richardson Viano will be the first Caribbean skier to compete in the Olympic Winter Games.
"The Haitian delegation will arrive in Beijing on January 31 and participate in the opening ceremony scheduled for February 4" informs Jean-Pierre Roy aka "Rasta Piquett" President of the Haitian Ski Federation (FHS) "
He indicated that another qualified athlete, Mackenson Florindo (born April 7, 2002 in Verrette, Artibonite) has been adopted by a French family and will be there as a replacement to deal with any eventuality, injury and/or Covid-19 of Viano.
Jean-Pierre Roy insists on the fact that Viano "will not go to Beijing just for the anecdote, but to obtain a good ranking, better results at the Winter Olympics, than those already established and proudly wear the colors of Haiti, his country of origin.
"Rasta Piquett" is banking on a Winter Olympics effect to further add to a Haitian team that is due to host a freestyle specialist and another skicross next year.

Orphan born in Croix-des-Missions (Plaine du Cul-de-Sac), he was adopted at the age of three by an Italian couple living near Briançon (France). Unable to join the France team in 2018, he was asked by the Haitian Federation to obtain his nationality in the summer of 2019 and was able to participate in international competitions under the colors of Haiti.
For Richardson Viano, everything was decided when the president of the Haitian Ski Federation Jean-Pierre Roy contacted him to suggest that he ski under the colors of his native country, where the average temperature is around 30°C.
"Without this call, I would certainly have stopped skiing and would be working in the building industry."
