Haiti - USA Conditional stay program : Arrests of crooks
The National Police of Haiti (PNH) announced the arrest of 2 individuals Mercius Patrick (44 years old) and the Young Rolanda Petit-Homme, members of a network of crooks in the department of Artibonite, who extorted the money to people who wanted to apply for the Biden administration's new conditional residency ("Humanitarian Parole") program.

According to the Police, the group based in the Opoto area used social networks to demand money from those who wanted to apply for this program https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38566-haiti-flash-new-us-entry-program-for-haitian-migrants-conditions-and-steps-to-follow.html . Several accomplices in this extortion case are actively sought.

This program set up by Washington represents a challenge for Haiti because it exceeds its capacity to process the required documents, which has prompted thousands of citizens to crowd into immigration offices to try to obtain their passports.

Several platforms, including "Nou ap Mache pou Lavi" have denounced that girls and young women have been sexually abused to obtain the precious passport while others have to pay up to 100,000 gourdes (about 620 dollars) from the so-called facilitators...

"Nou ap Mache pou Lavi" revealed that a vast network of immigration agents, police officers and other individuals have been defrauding citizens seeking passports since the program was announced...

For its part, the Citizen Protection Office (OPC) deplored that some are victims of exploitation, extortion and blackmail "They are victims of scams for services to which they are entitled. Regrettable incidents have been reported, particularly at the offices of Pétion-Ville, Tabarre and Delmas. Losses of human life have been documented," lamented the OPC.
