Haiti - Politic : After Davos, Laurent Lamothe is in Addis Ababa

After his participation Sunday 44th Economic Forum in Davos, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe left Switzerland for the 22nd Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union, held in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) from 28 to January 31. The meeting which will be attended among others by the Heads of State and Government of African, is this year dedicated mainly to agriculture and food security. Other topics, such as international trade, candidacies in international organizations, Peace and Security in Africa will also be on the agenda.

Beyond the presence of members of the African Union, European Union, Russia, the emerging Asian countries, China and other states will be present to monitor the progress of work of this organization, whose goal is to make Africa, through its resources, the new engine of the global economy.

Invited as an observer member, Haiti will benefit from the opportunity to express his an interest in joining this zone of integration, a symbol of African renewal whose historical and cultural ties are undeniable despite the geographical distance.

Prime Minister Lamothe will intervene in plenary sessions to emphasize on the hope of Haiti to become as soon as possible, a full member of the African Union. He will take advantage to propose to share experiences with states that have many similarities with Haiti. It will also be an opportunity for the Head of Government, to discuss the progress made in the agricultural sector in Haiti.

This approach, which is part of the strengthening of the South / South cooperationwill be an opportunity for the Prime Minister to meet with the President of the Commission of the African Union Ms. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and heads of State and Government of South Africa, Benin, Burundi, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Senegal and Rwanda.
