Back from a 3-days mission, started last Thursday in Santo Domingo, to track the progress of the Programme of Identification and Documentation of Haitian Immigrants (PIDIH) for our compatriots living illegally in the Dominican Republic, François Guillaume, the Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE) presented the results of the pilot project launched in Santo Domingo on July 21.

PIDIH achievements over the past 30 days :

• Establishment of a technical structure: ONI, National Archives, Immigration ;

• Recruitment of more than 100 technicians (among them Haitian students in the Dominican Republic) ;

• Registration of 8,700 beneficiaries including men, women and children, who should receive in the coming weeks, an identity card and a passport, according to the Minister Guillaume ;

• Four (4) premises are made availableto the program in four cities of the Dominican Republic (Santo Domingo, Barahona, Higuey) ;

• Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Economy and Finance ;

• Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ;

During this period, the Ministry met with Dominican authorities, leaders of the Haitian community in the Dominican Republic. The officials also visited the main cities where PIDIH will be implemented in the near future.

The Minister François Guillaume II stressed that his Ministry is the arm of the Haitian Government to serve wherever they are in the world.
