On Tuesday, Léon Charles the Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) followed up on the ongoing investigations into the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse on July 7, 2021.
He revealed that 3 foreign nationals living in the United States had participated in the financing of the assassination of President Moïse asking "[...] the FBI and other entities that collaborate with us to help us trace those concerned. It took a lot of money to carry out this operation, infiltrate the police, recruit these attackers, make them travel, house them, etc... We are in the process of exploiting the material that we have seized in order to go back to intellectual authors."
He revealed that as part of the investigation, 3 new arrests were made "These are police officers Boni Grégoire, Clifton Hyppolite and Dominique Cauvin. The latter attended all the planning meetings for the assassination of the President of the Republic. These meetings were organized at Reynaldo Corvington which we have already arrested.
The police chief said that in addition to the new arrests, 7 officers, including those with the President's security details, had already been placed in solitary confinement, although they were not officially considered suspects [...]" adding that 26 suspects have been arrested "18 Colombians, 5 Haitians and 3 Haitian-Americans" and 45 hearings have been carried out so far.
According to the police chief, 13 residences were searched "[...] We seized 45 rifles, one of them is the property of the police, 14 pistols, some of which are service weapons of some police officers which were stolen by the attackers during their crime, hundreds of cartridges of all calibers, a drone, three grenades and bulletproof vests [...]"
