Haiti - FLASH : Petit-Goâve placed under the supervision of the State
In a note dated Thursday, October 16, Réginald Delva, the Minister of Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT) explains that "Following the unfortunate events that agitate for several weeks the commune of Petit-Goâve, causing malfunction of the Municipal Administration, which is unable to provide basic services to the community, the Ministry of the Interior as part of the overall mission of ontrol of local authorities, decided to place the town of Petit-Goâve under the administrative and financial supervision of the central government this Wednesday.

To this end, the Ministry has set up a Technical Special Committee (CTS) composed of the executives of the Directorate of Local Authorities, responsible for making and approving all decisions related to the management of the Town Hall. This committee will also be responsible to promote the establishment of conditions for the proper functioning of the commune and the return to normal activity.

Also, the MICT informs the public that the National Police of Haiti was ordered to take action against any troublemakers and took the opportunity to launch an appeal for calm to the population of Petit-Goâve. The Ministry of Interior renews once again its commitment to work alongside the local authorities for the continuity of basic public services, maintaining homeland security and of living together of Haitian citizens."

Meanwhile in Petite-Goâve our correspondent Guyto Mathieu, reports that the "Democratic Opposition Bloc" (BOD) affiliated to the "Patriotic Movement of the Democratic Opposition" (MOPOD), accompanied by the leaders of the Joint Liberation Front (MLF) held their 17th day of demonstration...

"The BOD is never going to accept that President Martelly is running the country by decree in January 2015... We demand the organization of early general elections... We are opposed to Martelly and Laurent Lamothe. We support all actions nationwide that seek the overthrow of President Martelly," said Acaau Rilmer, a leader of the BOD. For his part agronomist Laurent, a member of the Joint Liberation Front, which remains attached to the retention (in office) of President Martelly, affirmed that the FML objective is to prevent the re-election of the Deputy of Petit-Goâve Jacques Stevenson Thimoléon. This demonstration took place without major incident or throwing stones.

Meanwhile, supporters of local authorities have also demonstrated for claiming the inauguration and reopening the wharf in Petit-Goâve, fully rehabilitated by the administration Martelly-Lamothe. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12293-haiti-social-protest-in-petit-goave-against-the-postponement-of-the-inauguration-of-the-wharf.html They rode avenue Simmonds's, Chabanne, Cupidon and the national road until André Dicette where they were brutally dispersed with tear gas thrown by the agents of the Departmental Unit for Maintenance of Order (UDMO).

Also, late Thursday afternoon, Jean Navy Lamontagne aka "Ti toutou" a supporter of the local authorities, was arrested by agents of the UDMO accompanied by two justices of the peace.
