Haiti - FLASH : A 2nd Kenyan contingent has arrived in Haiti 17/07/2024 06:56:52
Tuesday July 16, 2024, as part of the Multinational Mission to Support the National Police of Haiti (PNH) to fight against armed gangs, authorized on October 2nd, 2023, by resolution 2699 voted on at the UN Security Council https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-40642-haiti-flash-the-security-council-approves-the-intervention-of-a-multinational-force-in-haiti.html , a charter flight OAE2376 of Omni Air International landed at Toussaint Louverture Airport in Port-au-Prince at 11:26 a.m. (local time) with on board a 2nd Kenyan contingent of around 200 officers https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-42780-haiti-news-zapping.html out of the thousand that Kenya has committed to providing.
In military fatigues, equipped with their assault rifles, Kenyan police officers from several specialized units disembarked and regrouped on the Tarmac before returning by bus to their base located within the airport perimeter.
Rameau Normil and members of the High Staff as well as the Kenyan commander in Haiti, Inspector General Godfrey Otunge welcomed this second contingent of police officers.
Godfrey Otunge said "The arrival of this second group is proof of Kenya’s commitment. This contingent will greatly contribute to strengthening the capacity of the Haitian police so that they can put gangs out of harm's way."
Let's remember that this international mission which will be joined by the Kenyan force of 1,000 police officers, personnel from Benin and Chad among the African countries; Bahamas, Jamaica, Barbados and Suriname among the Caribbean countries, as well as Bangladesh to reach a strength of 2,500 men (police and military) or more depending on circumstances.
